A note from our esteemed Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee:

Dear Friends and Congregants,

I hope this letter finds you well. The High Holy Days are drawing near. Rosh Hashanah begins on the evening of Wednesday, October 2, and continues the next morning, Thursday, October 3. Following the morning service we will walk to the Neuse River for a brief tashlich service. Yom Kippur begins with Kol Nidrei on Friday evening, October 11, and continues on Saturday, October 12.

Please note that the Kol Nidrei service is starting earlier due to the early time of sunset this year.

Temple B’nai Sholem will hold services in the Temple sanctuary. We hope to see everyone at the Temple this year. We may also offer services streamed or visible via Zoom, but this has not yet been worked out. We will advise if this will happen.

For security reasons, we will not be able to admit anyone into the Temple without an “invitation”. To obtain an invitation please contact Irv Joffee by email at ijoffee@gmail.com. Please specify the number of people who will attend and their names. If you would like a link to a virtual service, in the event that is offered, please indicate that as well in your request.

All paid-up members of our congregation (including members who are on a payment plan) will receive invitations when requested. If you are not currently a paid-up member or are on a payment plan we ask that you make a $150 donation to the Temple for each seat you request. This will apply to a link to a virtual service as well. If you choose to become a member, this donation will be applied to your membership commitment.

Temple B’nai Sholem intends to be here to meet the needs of all Jewish people in the New Bern area, however keeping the lights on is not free. As much as we might like to, we cannot be here for you if you are not also here for the congregation.

Wishing everyone a Sweet and Happy New Year,

Irv Joffee,

Religious Affairs Committee
