Our Sanctuary

building plan thumbnailBuilt in 1908, our sanctuary was designed by notable New Bern architect Herbert Woodley Simpson (1870-1945). It has subsequently been enlarged by adding a meeting and social room behind the bimah that includes the areas marked Rabbi and Room. New Bern has never had a large Jewish community so seating for 90 people is usually adequate. Our Ark contains four Torahs, the most treasured of which is a Holocaust Torah from the town of Trebon which is now in the South Bohemian region of the Czech Republic.ark
